I’m not sure why they cast her in this role
In The Day of the Jackal (1973), the Jackal also drives a white Alfa Romeo, albeit an earlier model. Mentioned in Graham Norton and guests: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossoms (2024). Something about Lashana just didn’t click for me – I can’t quite put my finger on it.
She wasn’t terrible, but she bugged me the whole time
🙁 Eddie Redmayne absolutely nails the role of the killer, bringing a chilling, magnetic energy to the role. He’s terrifying, yet somehow impossible to look away from, and his every move seems super calculated. Redmayne’s mix of charm and menace is spot on, making the character both endearing and unsettling, as I said.
Her character comes across as disposable and unimpressive
Her performance as the no-nonsense intelligence agent comes across as flat and a bit clichéd, lacking the depth you’d expect from a story like this in a film that thrives on detail and complexity. Overall, the film is intense and compelling, but the uneven performances hold it back a bit. Redmayne’s incredible performance is worth checking out, even if Lynch’s lapses take away some of the impact.
