Narrative
When maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry finds her livelihood under attack from greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the industry. A collection of oddball characters in dire straits try to pull off a maple syrup heist to save their financial woes. Ruth, whose husband is in a coma, has lost her right to sell maple syrup to the cartel run by Leonard.
He is the sole guardian for the entire maple syrup stockpile
It turns out her husband owns the rights to harvest the syrup, so she’s been fined for using his rights illegally. Remy, a kind of sad character, is the guard at the warehouse where all the syrup is stored and sneaks a barrel or two out of the warehouse at night with a friend who is suddenly murdered. Since Ruth has been in financial trouble, the only way forward has been to steal on a much larger scale, and she and Remy have brought Mike into the plan.
The truth is a whole other story
Mike comes across as a powerhouse who can do big things. And with all the personality clashes and confusion, he almost becomes a caprice of the Keystone cops. Every time they seem to have things under control, problems arise, and their approach to trying to solve them is a big part of the humor.
And a very interesting cameo appearance
One takeaway is that it leads to a second season, so there are plenty of loose ends. And as was made abundantly clear, that’s not how the actual theft was done. So, this is a funny fictional account.
