Narrative
Two girls disappear. Police recruit Paul Chartier joins an undercover unit tracking a sex offender. After the operation stalls, Chartier pursues the perpetrators on his own, disillusioned with the legal restrictions.. I know it was supposed to be called “If You Can” … and I think that would have worked too … but I went with it …

The film is based on a true story – and I have no idea what happened in the 90s … and from what I understand, you need a lot of artistic license with that … who did what to whom … who survived and who didn’t … and I assume the main character (police/gendarmerie) is an amalgamation of many characters into one – I could be wrong of course, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case. That said, the film may be long (2.5 hours), but it never really feels that way.

Well, maybe at the wedding at the beginning… Greeks celebrate in a similar way to Italians… is that necessary for the story? I would say no… but maybe I’m missing something. The suspenseful part is really well done…
a lot goes wrong
you feel for the main character… he has the right eye, he has the right “nose”… but will he be able to convince others? Many departments are almost working against each other… it is well told and acted… but for me there is still a factor missing that would bring the whole thing to a climax…
more tension throughout
as much praise as it has received… and as good as it is… the final push is missing… perhaps a bit more charisma… and so on.
